Long before two became four
We lived in PB close to the shore
Sunsets and bonfires were always fun
But our condo was no place for little ones
So after the babies we headed East for
A home that offered us space galore
“Won’t you miss your life at the beach?”
Friends didn’t think we would love the East
“It’s sunnier, more affordable, great for families,” I’d say
There are more fun things to do than time in the day
The first Java Mama opened right down the street
And our La Mesa Village events cannot be beat
We love Playtown, Funbelievable, the carousel at the mall
We pick strawberries each summer and pick pumpkins each fall
The cross at Mt. Helix is fantastic to behold
And the farms offer wonders for the young and the old
We’ve met newborn calves, goats, llamas and even emu
Visiting Summers Past and Van Ommerings is a great thing to do
And something extra special that many don’t know
We’re only 30 minutes away from some fabulous snow
Santee Lakes are gorgeous, and the spray grounds are fun
It’s the right way to cool off from that East County sun
Mission Trails Regional Park is a nice place for hiking
Lake Murray is perfect for family biking
Coronado, Little Italy and Balboa Park is just minutes away
And a trip to Seaworld is easy any day
We have block parties, trick-or-treating, an old-fashioned neighborhood
Yes, our life in East County is truly oh so good
You are right! I was born and raised in East County, and it is great for families! I would love to live at the beach, but with three kids in elementary school, there is so much for them out here…we will save our beach life for when the kids are grown, and just visit for now :o)
