Let the Savings Begin!

They say you can divide moms into two groups…Target shoppers and Walmart shoppers.

I was on my way to Target the other day to pick up some frozen waffles and cake mix when I remembered that La Mesa’s new Walmart Neighborhood Market is now open. I know a lot about the neighborhood market concept since I shop at one every summer during our 2-week vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama. The selection is always great, the prices are even better, and since my trip to Target was basically for grocery items, I decided to give La Mesa’s newest market a try.

Wow, 33-cent Haas avocados! $1 for a 7lb bag of ice! The same or better prices on all of the things I normally pick up from Target, but oh so much more to choose from. In fact, Walmart Neighborhood Market is essentially like the Ralph’s grocery store that is just next door, but with those famous Walmart prices on food and pharmacy items.

It also had a few items that were particularly appealing to a Louisianan like myself…

The neighborhood market looks nothing like a regular Walmart, by the way. Its cheerier colors are bright green and yellow.

And, so far, the staff seems exceptionally well trained to be helpful and friendly. My cashier told me that the neighborhood market will match prices and strives to automatically offer the lowest price in town.

Want to try out the Walmart Neighborhood Market for yourself? To enter for a chance to win a $25 neighborhood market gift card simply comment on this post and tell me whether you’re usually a Walmart or a Target mom 🙂

Walmart, although they’re ALWAYS out of something I need and it sometimes takes them weeks to reorder that specific item because even though I come back days later, they don’t have it.

    I have a target mom.

I shop at both, but Walmart being 2 minutes from my house, is a better draw. Groceries and cleaning supplies are definitely cheaper at Walmart!

I am usually a Walmart mom for groceries but Target for everything else!! 🙂

Target…because it’s closer to where I live but your article intrigues me to go to the Walmart the next time I’m in La Mesa – it sounds great. The Target grocery department is nice but not full service/stocked or always fresh enough that I could do all my shopping there all the time. I hope Walmart has some healthier and organic choices that Target does not.

I like both for different things, since they are right next to each other, just depends on what I need that day…..

Target most of the time, the lines at walmart with a 2 year old are not ideal

  14. Target all the way!

I’ve always loved target! However, some things must be bought at Wal Mart due to competitive prices!!

Hello! I am both a Target mom and a Wal mart mom. I buy grocery at walmart. And everything else I buy 50% on each one.

  20. Both! Depends on which direction we are coming or going since theyes are in different areas of town.

I’m mostly Walmart because it is less than a mile from my house. I REALLY want to try the new market. I have a strict budget right now because of my husbands furlough days, and we have 3 girls so I would like to see how the prices are there :o) Thank you for these give aways!

I love both Walmart and Target because of low prices but I live really close to a Walmart so I tend to go there more often. So I would consider myself 60% Walmart mom and 40% Target mom! 🙂

I’m more of a Target shopper because of quality and convenience. There are a few things that I like to specifically buy at Walmart so I do go there as well.

  30. Aline Grigorian says:

I’m more of a Walmart shoppers. I’ll go there first for most things since I know I’ll get the lowest price. But if we happen to be near Target and I need a thing or two, I’ll stop there. Big shopping trips are at Walmart though.
