Circus Magic

Marissa took her family to Circus Vargas last weekend…they’ll be here for another week in case you want to take your family!

As a kid, I was obsessed with magic. I’d spend hours perfecting my magic tricks and always had one up my sleeve, ready to show at any given time. My five year son “Bean” has started to notice all the magic kits, books and DVDs that we have and is constantly requesting that I teach him a trick or two.

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to see Circus Vargas. When we learned that this year’s show was called “Magikaria, A Fantastical Magical Experience!” it was kind of a no brainer that we would love it. Bean had already been excited for the circus, but now with the magic element thrown in he couldn’t wait to see it.

This was the first circus we took our kids to and they loved it! We were a little worried about how two year old “Pinga” would handle it, but she never once got fussy. We showed up early for the interactive pre-show, where the kids got to create some magic of their own. Bean showed off his feather balancing skills and they had fun throwing colorful scarves into the air.

I was pleasantly surprised that the clowns were actually funny and they did some impressive magic tricks as well! Pinga’s favorite moment was the trapeze act. I only wish there had been more of it. Bean loved the nine ball juggler and we were all in awe of the human cannonball. We couldn’t believe the family in the motorcycle sphere act, especially the eleven year old doing all kinds of dangerous stunts. Definitely a tense moment, but these were true professionals! We did get to meet them, as well as all the other performers after the show, which was a nice touch.

No animals are used in the show, which I was pleased to see. My only complaint was that it was a bit hot and stuffy inside – luckily hubby found a seat across from a fan, so it wasn’t too bad. There are also all sorts of fun light up swords, cups and other trinkets for sale, so if you anticipate your children begging for these things bring some cash! The glamorous costumes, spectacular sets and awe inspiring performers made our first family circus experience a magical one!

If you haven’t experienced Circus Vargas in San Diego yet, there is one more chance to do so! Catch them in Vista at Highway 78 at Vista Village Drive from March 21st -April 1st. Tickets are available on the Circus Vargas website. Have fun!
