Fall Fun for San Diego Kids!

Did you feel fall in the air this morning? Hopefully it will last a bit longer. But, don’t let warm weather stop you from scheduling your fall family fun.

If you wait until there’s a real chill in the air, you may totally miss out on the glory of apple picking in Julian. Some orchards opened in August, and you’ll see them start to close as they sell out.

I remember it being down-right hot when we visited Raven Hill Orchard (now called Volcan Valley Apple Farm) last “fall.” But it was a beautiful day and, as always, a fun way to spend time as a family.

The Julian Chamber of Commerce does a good job of updating its website with orchard openings and closings so be sure to follow them when planning your trip.

If you’re going to make the trip to Julian, you really should plan to spend the day and check out some of the town’s other attractions. We actually enjoyed our first visit to the Julian Mining Company more than our morning of picking apples.

The kids panned for gold and gems, climbed rocks, learned how to throw a tomahawk, played in a real teepee, drank freshly made (in front of us!) apple cider and went on a hay ride.

fresh apple cider!

I’ll update this post once we’ve made our annual trip, but I wanted to let everyone know that it’s time to visit before all of the apples are gone. 🙂
