Captain Mike

There are a number of good places to get a kid’s haircut in San Diego.  We live in the East County and have visited nearly every kids’ salon between La Jolla and Chula Vista.

But when Gage was three he gave up kiddie salons in favor of a grown-up, traditional barber shop, and he hasn’t had his hair cut anywhere else since.

From our first visit to Captain Mike’s Hair Dock, I knew we had found an extra-special business.

Captain Mike does not specialize in children’s hair.  He doesn’t have any car-shaped chairs, DVD players or toys.  He’s just an old-fashioned barber who loves to fish and who gives a great boy’s hair cut for only $9.  And, he is very good with my son.

Captain Mike is very popular, and sometimes we have to wait for awhile to see him (no appointments accepted).  So we like to sit outside of his shop and watch the fish swim in the pond.

I can’t even remember how we stumbled upon Captain Mike’s Hair Dock in Santee, but I am so glad that we did.  He and Gage have a sweet little bond.

If you have a son, but don’t live anywhere near Santee, take a look around your own community for a local barber shop.  I bet you have a Captain Mike-type around!

He’s in the food for less strip center on Cuyamaca behind Tutor Time in the courtyard. Click the link in the story for his contact info.

I would love to give this place a try…where in Santee is he?
