So with Halloween over, what plans do you have for that rotting jack-o-lantern sitting on your porch?
I know of two fun ways to recycle your pumpkins this upcoming fall weekend. The first is just East of Mission Valley in the beautiful San Carlos Community Garden.
Located at 6460 Boulder Lake Avenue, this community garden is typically open each Saturday for tours. But on Saturday, November 7th they’ll host a family-friendly Pumpkin Smash Harvest Festival with games and activities for kids, live music, food and refreshments. Bring your pumpkins for smashing between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Your compost contribution will help nourish the gardens for the months to come!
A little further away, but well worth the drive on a beautiful fall day is the 1st Annual Pumpkin Chunkin’ event at Cross Family Farm. We spent a few hours on the farm last weekend and wished we had more time to hang in Julian. You can enjoy all of the activities that we did (petting corral, hayride, apple cider pressing) on November 7th & 8th PLUS try your hand at catapulting pumpkins. Bring your own or buy one off the farm!
Owned and operated by our friends from The Julian Mining Company, Cross Family Farm is located just across the street from the mining company on Highway 78 in Julian. This weekend will be the last of the year to enjoy a harvest weekend. Visit this Saturday and Sunday between 12 and 4 p.m. and kiss that ‘ole pumpkin good-bye!
