I love this list that San Diego Family Magazine came up with for ticket-less families like ours who still want to be a part of Comic-Con. Of course most San Diegans know that you can drive or walk down the streets surrounding the Convention Center and see outrageous costumes, but there really are some fun and free things that families can do to be more hands-on with the event.
We took Family Magazine’s advice and visited the Nintendo Family Gaming Lounge on Thursday night and, oh my, what a perfect way for our whole family to be a part of the excitement!
We parked in a downtown lot and enjoyed the 10 minute walk through the crowds and into the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina hotel, which is the home of the lounge. (mom tip: for even more adventure, take a pedicab!)
This lounge is basically paradise for kids who enjoy video games, and here they’ll get to experience some old Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games favorites as well as some newbies including; Style Savvy: Fashion Forward – Launching Aug. 19 and already a new “must have” for Mallory.
Gage’s new favorite, Kirby: Planet Robobot is available now, which is great given his birthday is this weekend!
Sadly, Pokemon Go wasn’t featured at this event, although there was a lot for the kids to do with that game on the walk through the Comic-Con crowds.
Fans can enjoy Nintendo 3DS and Wii U game play, photo opportunities, live competitions and giveaways today and tomorrow. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. & on Sunday the lounge is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. For a complete list of activities, visit the Nintendo website here.
Don’t forget that it’s completely acceptable for you to dress up like it’s Halloween. The kids didn’t want to, but we sure did!
