SAND-iego is about to get even sandier with the 2016 US Sand Sculpting Challenge

CC-Monster+truckThere are so many things to love about San Diego. The sun, the surf, and the SAND to name a few! It’s a rare opportunity to be able to tell your friends and family that you are heading to the US Sand Sculpting Challenge over Labor Day weekend, where you will see jaw-dropping works of art formed out of sand! Ladies and gentlemen, these are not your average sand castles. I will be there to witness them in person, and am excited to be giving away a family 4-pack so that you can join in on the fun with me!

This Labor Day weekend, the B Street Pier will be turned into a giant beach above the harbor when over 300 tons of sand are brought up onto the pier for the competition.  11 Professional Sand Sculptors will come from across the world from places like Singapore and the Netherlands to compete solo and challenge the best in the US at their shot at more than $60,000 in prize money. Add in 7 more teams of 3 professionals, each carving for 2 days, to witness the best in the west in a class called Cool California Carvers.

This 4-day family friendly extravaganza will feature live entertainment, beer & wine gardens, gourmet food trucks, and a sand box, bubble fun, and rides for the kiddos! There will even be professional sculptors on hand to teach your children how to build beautiful sandcastles. Check out the winners from the 2015 event. Simply amazing!

Even though the large sculptures can’t be brought home, there will be over 1,000 art pieces on display and for sale featuring metal, wood, glass, wall art, fabric, acrylic, and gemstones.

Tickets are on sale now, but one lucky MomsGuide reader will win a family 4-pack of tickets to the event! To enter, simply comment below with the name of your favorite beach! It can be anywhere in the world! If you don’t win this round, make sure to get your tickets soon, as ticket prices increase on August 16th. Also check out the Free First Responder & Military Day, Friday, Sept 2nd, and the great deals for Active Military, Children & Seniors throughout the weekend. And don’t forget that your attendance helps our local kids, as a portion of the proceeds go to children’s education charities, such as the SD School of Creative and Performing Arts, the Young Audiences of San Diego, and the It’s All About the Kids Foundation!

Our favorite beach is Torrey Pines, but without a reliable car, we have been doing, Coronado, and ocean beach. I grew up in ib when they had the us open there. Now, it’s sand and sea. We love in downtown area now and would love the boys to experience what I grew up with. As a school employee I’ve been out for summer and can’t afford tickets. This would be fantastic.
