There are so many wonderful ways to celebrate the holidays in San Diego that I like to get started early to squeeze as much in as possible. That’s why I don’t mind at all going to see How The Grinch Stole Christmas at the Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Based on the classic Dr. Seuss book, this family-friendly musical performance is probably our favorite holiday tradition. It’s funny, it’s happy and it always puts us in the Christmas spirit. We’ve gone nearly every year for the past 12 years and have these tips to share with you . . .
Kids and adults of all ages will enjoy How the Grinch Stole Christmas, especially because most of the cast are local child actors.
The show runs a quick 1 hour and 25 minutes.
The 11 a.m. showing welcomes all ages and offers free admission to children under 2.
Tickets start at $29.
Get to Balboa Park early so you have time to find parking. (often a challenge!)
Make your way over to the whimsical Dr. Seuss Christmas tree for a fun family photo.
Enjoy hot chocolate and cocktails at the theater concession stand before the performance.
There’s no intermission so plan accordingly.
On December 10th the cast will perform for special needs children.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas opened in early November and runs through December 26th. For more information visit theoldglobe.org.
