Have you ever wanted to introduce volunteerism and community service to your kids, but have struggled to find opportunities that make sense and feel safe?
Well look no further – BAD (Building A Dream) Moms of San Diego -is your in-person and online community of moms sharing love, light and philanthropy. Founded on the principle that the best way to plan for the future is by creating it, BAD Moms assists mothers in raising happy, healthy and creative children who thrive and then go on to provide for the world.
Niki Jones is the founder of BAD Moms and says she started the group shortly after becoming a mom to daughter Kaialani Hope, now 17 months. As a child Niki remembers volunteering with her mother and the impact on her life. “I wanted to create a tribe of moms who were looking to share those same experiences with their kids,” Niki says.
BAD Moms of San Diego hosts monthly events for mothers and their children (of all ages) that mix a little fun with giving back to the community. BAD Moms also hosts quarterly mom-only get togethers. Last month’s meeting generated several volunteer ideas including:
- back-to-school backpack donations
- senior home visits and meals
- helping fight childhood hunger
- assisting animal rescue organizations
If giving back with your child appeals to you, join BAD Moms on Saturday, July 29th for their first community service event.
Moms and kids will be making cards for Veterans and military service personnel. The event starts at 10 a.m. in Balboa Park (near the corner of 6th & Laurel). Bring a picnic lunch and even a snack to share if you feel up for it! There will be fun outdoor games and other activities to mix in with the project. Niki says you won’t be able to miss her tent and tables!
