Each week this month we are profiling one of our favorite San Diego non-profits and giving you the chance to enter to win a membership, admission or event ticket in support of that organization. Today’s spotlight is on the Birch Aquarium at Scripps.
What we love: The aquarium displays at Birch Aquarium are mesmerizing to toddlers and adults alike, and the entire campus is easy and entertaining to walk through. Kids especially love the turtle, tide pool and shark feeding events. Aquarium staff help visitors interact with sea stars, sea anemones, hermit crabs, sea cucumbers and lobsters found in the aquarium’s Tide Pool Plaza. In the summer, parents can enjoy live outdoor concerts while the kids play in the plaza.
Families who enjoy the aquarium should “dive deeper” by checking out their off-property education opportunities including naturalist-led tide pooling adventures in La Jolla and Point Loma and whale watching expeditions in San Diego Bay.
What we’re offering: Enter for your chance to win a 2018 family membership to Birch Aquarium good for two adults and up to four children by leaving a comment below. If you become our winner, all year long you’ll have unlimited access to the aquarium, four complimentary guest passes, invitations to members-only events and discounts to camps and educational programs.
When we’re going: Visit this month to see Scuba Santa in action and to participate in the annual Holiday Night Lights event and learn about bioluminescence. Winter is the best time to tide pool in San Diego since there are many low tides during the daylight hours. Birch Aquarium hosts guided tide pooling adventures all season long.
Fine print: The winner of our giving Tuesday/December contest will be announced on December 23rd. Each week a different non-profit will be highlighted, and readers are invited to enter for a chance to win a membership or admission. All entries will be collected and entered. One entry will be randomly selected to win and awarded the prize of their choice. Readers may enter every week during the month of December. Only one name and prize will be selected.
