Did you feel the hint of fall in the air this morning? Whether it’s warm or cool as we enter September, many San Diego families start to think about taking a drive up to Julian for apple picking season.
Julian apple picking is one of the sweetest ways to spend time with your kids, and it’s just an hour east of San Diego in the beautiful Cuyamaca mountains.
Orchards are reporting strong crops that are maturing a little later than usual. While every apple is normally gone by the end of September, some u-pick orchards will have only just opened by the end of the month.
Volcan Valley Apple Farm is our fave for straight apple picking. They plan to open at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 7th.
The Julian Mining Company is our favorite place for all-around family fun in Julian. In addition to picking juicy apples, this is the place we can spend the day with a petting zoo, gold mining, tomahawk throwing and more! They are open each weekend, but apples may not be sweet until later September.
You can find a complete list of orchards and links to their websites at visitjulian.com.
New this year is Julian’s Old Fashioned Country Fair, September 22 – 23rd at the Julian Farm & Orchard. Free and open to the public, this event will feature games and activities, some of which may carry a small charge.
Take a step back in time with the Mom’s Guide and join our group for a day of apple picking, hayrides and cider pressing at the Julian Mining Company. We’re working to get a group rate and hope to see you there!
