Make it a Musical Weekend

Research shows that music helps the body and mind work together, igniting child development and school readiness in our children. Dancing to music is excellent for self-expression and building motor skills in our kids. It’s pretty fun for moms and dads too! Who doesn’t love watching their little ones shake their booties?

San Diego parents have three foot-stomping fun ways to celebrate music and childhood this weekend.

Hullabaloo Celebrates 15 Years with a Birthday Bash!

I can hardly believe that The Hullabaloo Band is turning 15. We were definitely one of the early-adopting families and have been proud followers for 13 years. On Saturday, February 2nd, Hullabaloo will host a Birthday Bash at the Encinitas Elks Lodge. This kid and adult-friendly concert features music & dancing, of course, but also snacks, prizes and a grown up bar for those with a designated driver.

The music starts at 5:15 p.m., and tickets are just $7 per person. Children under 1 are free. For tickets, visit brownpapertickets.com/event/4061885.

A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra

The San Diego Symphony offers numerous ways for families to get involved in music. We especially love when the orchestra plays the score to popular, family-friendly movies, but this weekend’s event gets to the heart of music. Where does the bassoon come from? Is a French horn really French?

On Sunday, February 3rd at 2 p.m. the San Diego Symphony presents an introduction to the orchestra, exploring how humans have created instruments to tell a story and how technology has shaped how we create sound. Tickets start at $10 for children ages 3-13 and $25 for everyone over 13. For more information, visit sandiegosymphony.org.

Grammy Award-winning Children’s Musician Dan Zanes Performs on Sunday

Dan Zanes was one of the first musicians that my children were exposed to, thanks to Disney Junior. This Grammy Award-winning musician will be in San Diego performing at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center this Sunday, February 3rd from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Children under age 5 are free. For tickets and additional information, visit my.lfjcc.org.

Added bonus! Dan Zanes has invited Steve from Hullabaloo Band to perform with him. 😉
