I always have fun with my kids when we visit the Fleet Science Center, but the newest exhibit, Pause/Play was kind of created with parents in mind, inviting the young-at-heart to hit “pause” on their busy lives and recapture the nostalgia of play.
Science shows that play has a number of cognitive, social, emotional and physical benefits at any age. And, of course, laughter is supposed to be the best medicine. So after an evening of bouncing on giant see-saws, swimming in adult-friendly ball pits and spinning on a merry-go-round, we left feeling the Fleet just great.
This new “No Adulting” experience isn’t only fun and games. The Fleet does a good job of incorporating science into the Pause/Play exhibit like teaching us a bit about the Coriolis effect while our family of 4 enjoyed the merry-go-round.
We didn’t get around to clocking our speed while sliding down a 15-foot-high, 31-foot-long slide, BUT that did look like a reason to head back to Pause/Play when it opens to the public on February 15th.
If you have science enthusiasts in your home, I highly recommend a family play date to laugh and learn at the Fleet Science Center. Pause/Play will be available through September 2nd. For more information visit rhfleet.org/exhibitions/pauseplay.
