Happy Mother’s Day to Us

Several years ago I wrote on this blog that all I wanted for Mother’s Day was a break from being a mom. While going out to eat on Mother’s Day meant I didn’t have to cook, it also meant that I was working double time keeping my kids entertained so as not to be disruptive in a nice restaurant. I longed for the gifts of sleeping in and spending the day any way I pleased. Know what I mean?

If you’re in the middle of those draining early years, take heart – times do change! At 13 and nearly 12-years-old, my kids sleep until mid-morning on the weekends, and they are perfectly wonderful dinner company. I have a lot of freedom compared with when they were little. Mothering has been an amazing, ever-changing experience, but, one thing has stayed the same . . . I crave a little pampering.

When it comes to mothering, serenity is usually in short supply no matter the stage we are in. That’s why this Mother’s Day I want to give one lucky Mom’s Guide reader a gift that I recently gave to myself.

Since January, my daughter and I have shared a membership to Therapie Day Spa. With locations in Ocean Beach and La Mesa, this adorable, peaceful little space is the perfect place for moms like us to unwind. For $65 per month we receive our choice of one benefit each month:

  • One 50-minute Swedish or Fusion massage

  • One 50-minute Glow or Calme customized facial

  • One 50-minute sugar polish body scrub

I always select the massage, and my daughter, who’s fighting teen acne, gets a facial. Therapie allows us to share the membership and we can also gift a benefit. In May I’ll be gifting my benefit to one of you!

Therapie’s 5-star rating on Yelp is well deserved. You will feel more relaxed from the moment you walk in.

Give yourself a little time to arrive early or stay later so that you can enjoy some hot tea in their cozy lounge. You deserve this break!

For your chance to win this Mother’s Day gift from me to you, simply comment on this blog post with which benefit you’d love to receive – massage, facial or body scrub. One lucky reader will be selected this Sunday in honor of our special day. Good luck!

Wishing you a wonderful Mother’s Day no matter how you’re spending it!

I’ve never been comfortable being touched by people other than my daughter and husband but I’ve driven past this spa and been so tempted to schedule something but haven’t followed through. Love the idea of sharing a membership with my mom (who my daughter adores and thinks all 5’2 of her is “so tall” haha). I would choose a facial and then maybe that would give me the courage for a massage or body scrub one day. Happy Mother’s Day and thanks for this opportunity, such a fun idea!

I work 12 hour shifts at Rady children’s Hospital which really puts a strain on my feet and back… A massage would be fabulous for Mother’s Day.

  34. Could definitely use this. Been in and out of the hospital with my son who had airway reconstruction for almost a year. His body in her directed the hardware and after four surgeries eventually had to remove it all. My days consist of feeding tube’s, IV antiobiotcs, lots of Ned’s, numerous Doctor appointments. and the list goes on.
