Cooking with Kids in San Diego

Have you heard? Master Chef Junior Live is coming to San Diego!

The family-friendly stage show will take place on Wednesday, October 16th at The Magnolia featuring head-to-head cooking demonstrations and fun (sometimes messy!) challenges with past Master Chef Junkior contestants, Q&A sessions and an overall immersive audience experience that promises fun for all ages. (Mom Tip: get your discounted ticket to the show through Groupon. 😉 )

Do you have an aspiring junior chef?  Over the years, San Diego has seen several “mommy & me” cooking programs come and go. But interest in teaching kids how to prepare their own healthy foods has never waned, which is why I’m thrilled to see that we are experiencing something of a cooking class uptick.

Junior Chef San Diego’s mission is to give all kids a chance to be creative, and at the same time learn how to be independent through cooking. Offering both mommy & me cooking classes as well as classes by age group, Junior Chef San Diego students learn the necessary skills needed to tackle a recipe in the kitchen. Upcoming specials include a Halloween cooking party, winter camps and birthday party packages.

If you’re ready for your kiddo to learn to use real knives, gas-burners and other kitchen tools, this is the place for you.  Upcoming classes include Daddy & Me Mini Chef LEGO Party, Teen’s Kitchen Cheeseburgers in Paradise and Kids’ Kitchen Fall Food Favorites.

Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma offer a wonderful selection of cooking classes on a regular basis, but they are typically for adults. However, around holiday time and your school breaks you’re likely to find great opportunities for kids to participate. Sur La Table offers Family Fun Pizza and Calzone Making, Holiday Cookie Decorating and Winter Break Cooking Camps in November and December. Williams Sonoma’s Junior Chef program features a Halloween Cookie Party and a Haunted House Decorating event in October.
