AYP
Adequate Yearly Progress. A statewide accountability system mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 which requires each state to ensure that all schools and districts make Adequate Yearly Progress.

Charter School

The Kindergarten Readiness Act
The act signed into law by Gov. Schwarzenegger in 2010, which changed the kindergarten entry date from Dec. 2 to Sept. 1 so that children enter kindergarten at age 5. The law phases in the new age requirement by moving the cutoff date one month a year for three years. The 2012-2013 school year required kindergarten students to be five years of age by November 1, 2012. For the 2013-2014 school year, students must be five by October 1, 2013. By 2014 children must be five years of age by September 1 for kindergarten eligibility.
