Do your kids like Animal Shows? Reptiles? Ladybugs? Bug Eating? Crafts? Food & Drinks?
If yes, be sure to catch the San Diego Botanic Garden's Insect Festival. This one-of-a-kind event features thousands of fascinating creepy-crawlies including live insects, lizards, snakes, ladybugs and the famous “Madagascar hissing cockroaches.” Children can practice bug collecting, hands-on insect arts and crafts, and even taste cooked mealworm. Entomologists and other bug experts will be available for questions at several information booths that will teach and entertain children and adults alike. Click here for ticket details

Children ages 5-10 are invited to join Mission Trails Regional Park Ranger, Heidi, for a nature story, followed by an arts-and-craft project related to the theme of the story. Meet at the Kumeyaay Lake Campground’s picnic shelter (across from the restrooms) on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. This program is FREE, but space is limited, so please be sure to RSVP by calling 619-668-3279.

Celebrate the 3rd Annual National Carousel Day at the historic Balboa Park Carousel. This FREE event will feature musical entertainment, free carousel rides all day, face painting, food vendors, children’s activities and more fun for the whole family! 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Balboa Park. The annual event commemorates the purchase of the historic Carousel by local nonprofit Friends of Balboa Park to ensure that it remains a historic park landmark for years to come.
