Kids in grades 3 to 5 will love to get up close with slimy ocean animals like octopuses, sea stars, sand dollars and moon snails are the focus of this free Library NExT workshop. Students will discover the secret of how octopuses change color and how oysters make pearls. Children ages 5-10 are invited to join Mission Trails Regional Park Ranger, Heidi, for a nature story, followed by an arts-and-craft project related to the theme of the story. Meet at the Kumeyaay Lake Campground’s picnic shelter (across from the restrooms) on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. This program is FREE, but space is limited, so please be sure to RSVP by calling 619-668-3279.

From 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. kids ages 18 and younger and their parents can participate in this free BBQ meal event for the whole family, free community resources and fun activities. Summer Fun Cafe kicks off San Diego Unified’s meal program that bridges the summer hunger gap and lets our children know that the community cares about their well-being all year long. The summer meal program is funded through the United State Department of Agriculture and operated by the San Diego Unified School District.
