  • There are 42 school districts within the county of San Diego. Find which one you belong to by visiting San Diego County Office of Education’s district directory.
  • In the state of California, children are not required to attend kindergarten, in accordance with Education Code section 48200.
  • The Kindergarten Readiness Act changed the age by which all California students would enter kindergarten. The new age requirement is being phased in over three years starting in the 2012-13 school year and requires that children turn five by November 2 for the 2012-2013 school year by October 2 for the 2013-2014 school year by September 2 for the 2014-2015 school year and each school year thereafter.
  • The California Open Enrollment Act provides students the opportunity to attend a school other than their neighborhood school including charters, magnets and even schools outside their district. Contact

  • California’s Ed-Data website offers parents quick access to data about the state’s K-12 education system including how public schools rate on the state’s Academic Performance Index (API).The state, county and district school reports available on the site offer information about student demographics and performance, staffing and teacher salaries and financial information. The Compare Districts and Compare Schools reports allow you to find or select districts or schools based on multiple categories for comparison.
